My Upcoming Dental Surgery and Avatar (no connection)

So, today I’m getting a gum graft. That’s a type of dental surgery, where they take a patch of my gums from a place in my mouth where I’m not using it. Then they paste it over the exposed root of my tooth. I’m pretty sure I have this receded gum line in the first place because of a dental appliance I was wearing to expand my palate. This surgery is going to create a big raw patch on the roof of my mouth where they ‘borrow’ the fresh skin. It’s going to be like, the biggest canker sore ever, so I’m looking forward to that. I’m kinda nervous because sometimes these transfers don’t take hold, and I might have to do it again. Which would suck, and be even more expensive.

I had my wisdom teeth out about four years ago, and bounced back after a few days. I don’t remember being this nervous, though. I guess when you get your wisdom teeth out, it’s for good. They don’t tell you that you might have to come back in a year and get them taken out again if the first removal didn’t ‘take’.

Anyway, I’m going to work today, then busing over to get this thing done in the afternoon. They said I should be able to go back to work at my sedentary job on Monday, so this whole thing shouldn’t be too big of a deal. And it’s a good excuse to eat pudding for meals.

Avatar Movie Still

In case anyone was wondering how I liked Avatar, I liked it a lot. Much like the vast majority of the internet I thought it was visually stunning. And like a slightly smaller majority of the internet, I enjoyed the plot line. It was a timeless story, which is another way of saying, it wasn’t an original story, but it was still very well told. I thought this interpretation (read “mixture of elements” or “window dressing”) was unique, so I enjoyed that. And that’s pretty much my two cents about that.

Okay, I better go brush my teeth and head off to work, wish me luck with my gum surgery thing!

Happy Holidays!

Hey everyone!
Merry Christmas, and happy boxing day! I’m in my hometown having a family Christmas. Later tonight, I’m going to see Avatar with my fiance, my sister and her boyfriend also, so hopefully that is awesome. And then it’ll be sushi with my parents. Last year on boxing day, I stood in line with Ryan to get a 37″ flat screen, so today has been much more relaxing, as boxing days go. (But with fewer new tvs.)
In news relating to Gloomies, I just wanted to mention that all my size small shirts have sold out, so that’s great! Thanks so much, readers! I still have a bunch of all the other sizes, so check out the store if you want a gloomies t-shirt for the new year.
Well, I’m gonna go get a coffee now, I hope everyone out there was able to get and give everything they wanted this holiday!
Merry Christmas!

Yes, I did buy a tiara…

As some of the more astute gloomie readers might have noticed by now, I am getting married to that guy I’m always at the conventions with. (Yay!) With the wedding planning taking up more and more of my thoughts, there might be a few more wedding flavored gloomies in the future. I figure as long as the gloomies stay funny and with the same random flavour, I can write some wedding planning jokes, without anyone minding. Some people out there are probably even in the same boat as me, and if so, congrats to you, go buy a tiara!
Now I gotta go do some chores, in my tiara.

Thinking about history

Hello, I’m gonna try some casual blogging now, where I just add a little blog after a gloomie if I feel like talking about the context or what prompted it.

Today’s gloomie:

2009-11-16

was inspired by me listening to Ken Follett’s newest novel (in audiobook form) World Without End. It’s the sequel to Pillars of the Earth, which is also awesome. I listened to it at work a couple months ago. They are both historical fiction, set in the Middle Ages. The second one takes place two hundred years after the first but they’re both about the same town in England, and the lives of some of the citizens.

Now, I like stories where there’s a cast of protagonists, and a cast of antagonists, and the lives of all the characters are interwoven, through family or friendship or whatever, so, these books were awesome for me. The protagonists were independent spirits, innovative and quick thinking, and the antagonist were sneaky, greedy and scrupulous, but all the characters were written with complex and interesting motivations.

Anyway, I recommend checking these books out if you’re looking for a story to get involved with.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone! It’s still my favourite holiday. You can’t count Christmas, because that’s more of a holiday season now, and I like that season more than the season of Halloween. Which is pretty much celebrated by bad decorations and not being allowed to dress up each day. But the actual day of Halloween beats out the day of Christmas in my book, especially since I’ve been old enough to drink.

As you might have noticed, I’m back from new York City. It was awesome, I loved it, Ryan loved it and I fought a panda in Chinatown. Here’s a picture:

Well, now I have to head out to a party, everyone have a great night!!

"Gloomies" and the "Gloomie Comics" are the property and creation of Suzanne, the creator of said gloomies. All opinions expressed within are the views of Suzanne unless I intended them to be taken sarcastically. Sarcasm is one of the many types of humor we try to provide at Gloomies. We are also sometimes silly, ironic, random or sneaky like when we throw a bunch of words on our main page in the hopes of increasing our ranking in Google. Funny, adorable, interesting, hilarious and cute are other words that we would throw on our page if we were doing that. We'd also probably include the words webcomic, web-comic, web comic and web comics.
